Day of the Dead: Grateful Dead Celebrates on the Web
Jeez, I'm tellin' ya. You always knew that the Grateful Dead
were crazy, but now they've gone over the top. It's not enough that
they've raided the vault for 5 CD's of musical gems, in a box set
called So Many Roads (1965-1995), out November 9 at all your better
music emporia. It's not enough that the set will include hip essays,
rare photographs (including the first Warlocks picture ever),
antiquities, studio rehearsal material, etc.
These guys are nuts. Now they're gonna give (some of) it away.
That's right: Starting today, November 1st the Dead will kick off the
celebration of So Many Roads (1965-1995) with a Web site (go to
http://www.dead.net/ and follow the bouncing link) that will feature:
three full songs that did not make it on the box set available
for downloading on the format of your choice.
multiple download and streaming audio and video formats
supported to make sure you can check it out: Liquid Audio, Microsoft
Windows Media, MP3, QuickTime 4, and RealMedia.
an exclusive video by Justin Kreutzmann featuring a live
version of "Liberty" from 1994, which includes a visual retrospective
of the band's entire career, also downloadable.
10 to 15 one minute streaming samples of tracks from the set.
and a Special Contest. Visit the Web site and submit an essay.
Specific details are included on the site. The first 100 people to
enter will get a promotional sampler CD from the box set, and the top
5 (per Judge Steve Silberman) will get a sampler and have their essay
posted on the Web site. The #1 essay writer will win the box set "So
Many Roads (1965-1995)." The Grand Prize winner (random drawing)
gets a weekend stay for two at the Jerry Garcia Suite at the Hotel
