9 Things to Look for to Find the Best Online Bank

1. No Fees

The first one’s simple – find a bank with no fees, please. When you’re shopping for a new online bank, why say bye bye to your hard-earned money if you don’t have to? That’s not a rhetorical question – please share any good answers you have.  We’d love to hear from you.

2. No Fees

Seriously – don’t pay your bank just because they ask you to. You deserve better than that.

3. Financial Automation

You’ve got a lot of things to think about: work, school, what to add to your Netflix queue, trends in machine learning and quantum computing – the usual. The best online banks make it a little easier to focus on the things that matter most to you by automating aspects of your financial health. Things like Chime’s Automated Savings plan, where you can build your nest egg when buy your Nest, eggs, or anything else for that matter. Every time you use your Chime Debit Card, we sneakily round up your purchase and set it aside for a rainy day. That’s ninja skills right there. That’s like the opposite of fees. Seef? Reverse Fees? We’re still working on that one.

4. A Mobile App that Shines

You don’t need to be told that the majority of internet browsing happens on mobile – you’re probably reading this on your phone right now. So why would you accept a watered down, featureless mobile app from your online bank? With Chime, you don’t have to. A full-featured mobile app means access to the features you use most, when you want them. Check your balances, make a money transfer, make a deposit, pay your bills, pay your friends, find your routing number – if you can do it on a desktop, you can do it in the app.

5. Mobile Check Deposit

Back in the stone age, you used to have to drive/bus/Uber to a physical bank branch so a guy in a tie could scan your check. With Chime’s app and mobile check deposit, you can transform that birthday money from Grandma into usable funds all on your own. My how big you’ve gotten!

6. Fee-Free ATM Options Where and When You Need Them

Debit cards and online transfers are great most of the time, but every now and then you need to withdraw some of that sweet, sweet caysh. And when you’re a VIP that needs dough ASAP, finding your bank’s ATM can be a PITA. Thankfully, Chime has a nationwide network of tens of thousands of ATMs in all the right places, so you’ll never have to look too far or waste a dime on penalty charges.

7. Bill Pay

Cell phone, power, Netflix… there’s no question that everybody has bills to pay. The questions is, does your bank make it as easy as possible to pay them? When you’re looking for an online bank that works for you, make sure that you can get your bills paid on time, directly from your account.

8. Friend Pay

Before the age of online peer-to-peer payment services, full PhD dissertations were done on the advanced math needed to properly split a dinner bill amongst friends. While those dark times are thankfully in our past, there are still holdovers among us who do not facilitate the easy transfer of money between friends. Chime is not one of those holdovers. {Would like to insert an explanation of how Chime’s peer-to-peer system works, but haven’t received my chime card yet. Can it be done with an email address? A phone number?}

9. No Fees

We had to do it one more time. Seriously – stop paying your bank to hold onto your money.
