Meet SpotMe

We’ll spot you up to $100* on debit card purchases with no overdraft fees.

Fee-Free Overdraft

Overdraft fees at traditional banks cost Americans an average of $250 a year.¹ At Chime, we do things differently. We allow you to overdraw up to $100* without charging a fee.

We’ve Got Your Back

Finally, you can have peace of mind if you overdraw your account to make a debit card purchase. With SpotMe, we’ll apply your next deposit into your Chime Checking Account to your negative balance.

Pay It Forward

When your SpotMe negative balance is repaid, we’ll give you the option to leave us an optional tip to pay it forward. Whether or not you tip won’t affect your SpotMe eligibility. SpotMe is a fee-free service, and friendly tips from our community help it stay that way!

SpotMe vs. Traditional Overdraft Protection

It's like overdraft protection but way better. We’ll let the fees speak for themselves.

How It Works

Chime members with total monthly direct deposits of $500 or more are eligible to enroll.
SpotMe limits start at $20 and can be increased up to $100 or more by Chime based on factors such as account activity and history.*

We’ll notify you to enroll in the Chime app when you have total monthly direct deposits of $500 or more

When you make a debit card purchase that exceeds your balance, we’ll spot you up to your limit

When your next deposit arrives in Chime, we’ll apply it to your negative balance

Questions?

Here's everything you need to know about SpotMe.

What is SpotMe?

SpotMe lets you make debit card purchases that overdraw your account with no overdraft fees. Limits start at $20 and can be increased up to $200.* We’ll spot you when you need that little extra cushion to cover an expense.

Is there a fee for using SpotMe?

There is no fee to use SpotMe! If you use SpotMe, you’ll be able to leave us an optional tip once you repay your negative balance. This helps us offer the service to more members. Whether or not you tip does not affect your eligibility in SpotMe.

Who is eligible for SpotMe?

Chime members who receive $200 or more in qualifying direct deposits over the preceding 34 days, and have activated their Chime debit card or secured credit card are eligible for SpotMe.

How much can I overdraft with my Chime account using SpotMe?

Your SpotMe limit starts at $20 and can be increased up to $200* based on account history and activity. Any transaction that would overdraw your account over your limit will be declined.

Please note that Chime Member Services cannot manually increase your SpotMe limit.

How does SpotMe compare to overdraft protection and cash advance programs?

Most banks that offer overdraft protection require you to link a savings account or charge fees for overdrafts on your account. Chime and its banking partners are not like most banks. We believe in having our member’s backs and will allow you to overdraft up to $200* without charging a fee. We also do not require you to link your Savings Account to your Checking Account or charge you a fee to participate in SpotMe.

What types of purchases can I make using SpotMe?

SpotMe only covers debit card purchases and cash withdrawals. SpotMe does not cover Pay Friends transfers, ACH transfers (including direct debits and services like Venmo or Square Cash), or Chime Checkbook transactions.

How to get started with SpotMe.

  1. Open the Settings tab in your Chime app to find out if you’re eligible for the SpotMe feature (make sure you have the latest version of the app).
  2. Once you activate your Chime debit card and agree to the SpotMe Terms and Conditions, you are officially enrolled in SpotMe!
  3. When you’re enrolled in SpotMe, you will be able to make debit card purchases that overdraft your account up to your limit.
  4. When we receive your next deposit, we will automatically apply it to your negative balance. No overdraft fees are applied. Ever.

Please Note: SpotMe only covers debit card purchases and cash withdrawals. SpotMe does not cover Pay Friends transfers, ACH transfers (including direct debits), or Chime Checkbook transactions.
