What is Chime®?

At Chime, we’ve created a new approach to online banking that doesn’t rely on fees~, gets you your paycheck up to 2 days early with direct deposit^, and helps you grow your savings automatically. When you open a bank account through Chime, you get a Visa® Debit Card and a Checking Account that can be managed entirely from your smartphone, plus an optional Savings Account that can help you grow your savings automatically! U.S. Citizen or legal resident of the United States 18 years and older are welcome to apply! While Chime cards work all over the world, currently we can only offer accounts to members with a valid SSN, living in the United States and District of Columbia.

How does Chime make money?

Chime makes money from the interchange fee charged on card transactions. Every time you use your Chime Visa® Debit Card or Credit Builder Secured Credit Card for purchases and paying bills, Visa processes the transaction and charges an interchange fee to merchants for the service. Chime receives a portion of this fee. This is how Chime can continue building new and better products that help members get the most from their money.

How do I open an online Chime® Checking Account and get a Visa® Debit Card?

Applying for a Chime Debit Card is free and signing up for an account takes less than 2 minutes. Here’s how to apply online:

  • Visit chime.com to apply and enter your personal info to complete the enrollment. You’ll need:
    • Your first and last name
    • Phone number
    • Date of birth
    • Email address and an account password
    • Social Security number
    • Home address
    • 18+ U.S. Citizen or resident of 50 United States
  • Once enrollment is completed, we’ll send a Chime Visa® Debit Card in the mail to the address you provided. Your free debit card typically arrives in 7-10 business days.

Download our mobile banking app and log in. You can connect your existing bank account to transfer funds or set up direct deposit to your Checking Account. You can also log in to online banking at chime.com whenever you need it.

Does Chime charge any fees?

We have no fees to sign up, no overdraft, no monthly service fees, no minimum balance fees, and no card replacement fees either. We do charge two fees. (1) $2.50 when you get cash from either an over the counter withdrawal, or an out-of-network ATM that is not part of Chime’s fee-free network of 50,000+ ATMs35865. $2 to receive funds instantly57863 through MyPay®.

How many ATMs accept the Chime Debit Card?

You can get cash with your debit card at more than 50,000+ fee-free ATMs – that’s more than the top 3 national banks combined! Bank ranking and number of ATMs according to U.S. News & World Report® 2023.

Find fee-free ATMs at your favorite retail stores like Walgreens®, CVS®, and 7-Eleven®. Enjoy fee-free debit card transactions at any Moneypass ATM in a 7-Eleven location and at any Allpoint or Visa Plus Alliance ATM. Otherwise, out-of-network ATM withdrawal fees may apply.

Will I ever be charged an overdraft fee through Chime?

No. If you don’t have sufficient funds in your Chime Checking Account or have reached your SpotMe limit (if enrolled), your Chime Visa® Debit Card will be declined. There is no fee for declining transactions or for utilizing SpotMe.

* SpotMe® on Debit is an optional, no fee overdraft service attached to your Chime Checking Account. To qualify for the SpotMe on Debit service, you must receive $200 or more in qualifying direct deposits to your Chime Checking Account each month and have activated your physical Chime Visa® Debit Card or secured Chime Credit Builder Visa® Credit Card.

Qualifying members will be allowed to overdraw their Chime Checking Account up to $20 on debit card purchases and cash withdrawals initially but may later be eligible for a higher limit of up to $200 or more based on Chime Account history, direct deposit frequency and amount, spending activity and other risk-based factors. The SpotMe on Debit limit will be displayed within the Chime mobile app and is subject to change at any time, at Chime's sole discretion. Although Chime does not charge any overdraft fees for SpotMe on Debit, there may be out-of-network or third-party fees associated with ATM transactions and fees associated with OTC cash withdrawals. SpotMe on Debit will not cover any non-debit card transactions, including ACH transfers, Pay Anyone transfers, or Chime Checkbook transactions. SpotMe on Debit Terms and Conditions.

** To be eligible for the $100.00 direct deposit promotion (the “Promotion) monetary reward, the participant (“Participant”) must: (1) have never previously opened a Chime Checking Account (“Account”) before participating in this Promotion; (2) obtain a promotional code from either one of Chime’s official affiliate partners via webpage or email; (3) enter the promotional code into the designated field labeled “Promo Code” on the specified promotional webpage and receive a green success notification tag; (4) successfully open an Account; and (5) receive a Qualifying Direct Deposit to their Account within 30 days of opening an Account. A Qualifying Direct Deposit is a deposit of $200 or more by Automated Clearing House (“ACH”) that comes from your employer, payroll provider, gig economy payer, or benefits payer OR a deposit by Original Credit Transaction (OCT) from your gig economy payer. Bank ACH transfers, Pay Anyone transfers, verification or trial deposits from financial institutions, peer to peer transfers from services such as PayPal, Cash App, or Venmo, mobile check deposits, cash deposits, one-time direct deposits, such as tax refunds and other similar transactions, and any deposit to which Chime deems to not be a Qualifying Direct Deposit are not Qualifying Direct Deposits. Eligible Participants may only receive this promotional reward once. Participants who satisfy the above conditions will receive a $100.00 credit to their Account typically within ten (10) business days after receiving the Qualifying Direct Deposit. This Promotion will run through June 30th, 2025 or as otherwise designated by Chime. Chime reserves the right to amend the Promotion duration and may permit Participants to enter a valid promo code after the listed date. In the event that the Promotion has ended, Participants will receive a “not a valid promo code” message after they enter the applicable promotional code, so that the Participant knows they are not eligible for the monetary reward prior to enrolling in an Account. Chime reserves the right to cancel or modify the Promotion terms or terminate the Participants’s eligibility at any time with or without prior notice. An Account may be available to citizens or legal permanent residents of the fifty (50) United States (“U.S.”) or the District of Columbia; who are at least 18 years of age with a valid Social Security number; and who provide Chime with a U.S. residential street address (not a P.O.
