On July 25, Chime hosted its second Compound CombineTM event in Charlotte, North Carolina, in partnership with Invest America. The event coincided with one of the biggest weeks in U.S. soccer, marking the series' first soccer-themed activation following the inaugural football-themed event in Jersey City.
Hundreds of local youth and families attended the event, engaging with financial education through drills, games, and information on budgeting, saving, and investing. Families also received on-site support enrolling their children in Trump Accounts, helping them take an immediate step toward building long-term financial security.
About the series
The Compound Combine, based on the concept of the sports combine, aims to teach communities across America one core wealth-building idea: the earlier you start, the greater your potential for growth. Drawing on the parallel between compound growth and athletic development, the event makes the idea of long-term investing tangible: building wealth, like becoming an elite athlete, is about starting early, staying consistent, and trusting small gains to add up over time.
Former professional soccer player and coach Landon Donovan joined families at the event, along with State Senator Caleb Theodros, representatives from Invest America, State Treasurer Brad Briner’s office, and local community partners.
"Financial confidence isn't built in a single conversation — it's built the same way an athlete builds skills: one small, consistent step at a time," said Kira Traore, Director of Social Impact at Chime. "That's what we wanted Charlotte families to walk away with. Not just a fun morning at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, but a real head start on the habits and tools that help wealth grow over time."
Throughout the event, families moved through seven interactive stations, each tying a soccer-style drill to a financial concept:
Budget Breakaway — building a budget that balances spending, saving, and future plans
Aim to Save — setting a savings goal and staying focused on it
Net Gains — learning how investing can grow money over time
Stay the Course — understanding how starting early and staying invested pays off, even through ups and downs
The Long Game — finding the right balance between spending, saving, and investing
Building Blocks — seeing how small, consistent contributions build toward the future
Rate of Return — discovering how compounding lets returns earn returns of their own
Signing up for Trump Accounts
“The Compound Combine shows the power of bringing financial education directly to families, and Charlotte is the latest example,” said Brad Gerstner, Founder of Invest America. “Through our partnership with Chime, we’re helping more families understand the opportunity of Trump Accounts and take an important first step toward investing for their children’s futures.”
The event helped families understand and sign up for Trump Accounts, a powerful way to help families jumpstart saving and investing for their children early. Chime has helped hundreds of thousands of Americans enroll in Trump Accounts to date, and was among the first companies to announce an employee match.
What's next
“Building financial confidence starts with giving families practical tools they can use early and often,” said North Carolina State Senator Caleb Theodros. “The Compound Combine brought that lesson to life for Mecklenburg County families in a way that was engaging, accessible, and fun.”
"We want every North Carolina student to know that financial success isn't a lucky bounce — it's the result of preparation, discipline and good habits,” said Brad Briner, Treasurer of North Carolina. “Saturday’s Compound Combine event is just the beginning, and the Department of State Treasurer is excited to help support and encourage students, and their families, to score with money for years to come."
Stay tuned for the next Compound Combine.
