Wells Fargo Fees
Wells Fargo charges multiple fees for each account type. Whether you’re sending, receiving, or moving around money – there may be a fee involved. The basic fees applicable to all accounts at Wells Fargo are overdraft fees, returned item fees, stop payment fees, and wire transfer fees.
Checking account fees
Clear Access Banking1
Wells Fargo has four different types of checking accounts:
- Clear Access Banking
- Everyday Checking
- Prime Checking
- Premier Checking
Clear Access Banking is ideal for people who want assistance managing their money, like teens and students. It has a minimum opening deposit of $25 and a $5 monthly service fee that can be waived if the primary account holder is between 13 to 24 years of age.
Cashier’s checks cost $10 each, and money orders cost $5 each. You can’t write checks, but you can deposit them. There are no overdraft services with this account, so you don’t have to worry about overdraft fees.
Cash withdrawals at non-Wells Fargo ATMs in the U.S. come with a $2.50 fee per withdrawal. Cash withdrawals at non-Wells Fargo ATMs outside the U.S. cost $5 per withdrawal.
International debit card purchases come with a transaction fee of 3% of the transaction amount. Wire transfer fees range from $15 to $45.¹
Checking account fees Everyday Checking2
The Everyday Checking account is designed for day-to-day banking, including student banking. The account has a monthly service fee of $10 and a minimum opening deposit of $25.
You can avoid the monthly service fee with one of the following each fee period:
- $500 minimum daily balance.
- $500 or more in total qualifying direct deposits.
- Primary account owner is 17-24 years old.
- Linking to a Wells Fargo Campus ATM Card or Campus Debit Card.
Cash withdrawals at non-Wells Fargo ATMs in the U.S. cost $2.50 per withdrawal. Cash withdrawals at non-Wells Fargo ATMs outside the U.S. cost $5 per withdrawal.
Cashier’s checks cost $10 each, and money orders cost $5 each. Prices for personal checks vary, depending on the design.
International debit card purchases come with a transaction fee of 3% of the transaction amount. You’ll still pay $15 to $45 for incoming and outgoing wire transfers.²
Checking account fees Prime Checking Account3
The Prime Checking account is an interest-bearing banking option for people who maintain higher balances.
The account has a minimum opening deposit of $25 and a Monthly Service Fee of $25. You can avoid the Monthly Service Fee by having $20,000 in your linked Wells Fargo accounts.
There’s no fee for Wells Fargo Personal Wallet checks. There are no ATM fees for Wells Fargo or non-Wells Fargo ATMs, and fees are waived for incoming wire transfers.
Cashier’s checks and money orders have a $0 fee. International debit card purchases come with a transaction fee of 3% of the transaction amount. You’ll pay $30 for domestic outgoing wire transfers.³
Checking account fees Premier Checking Account4
A Premier Checking account is a premium option offered by Wells Fargo. This account is designed for people who want upgraded features and discounts with fewer fees.
It comes with a minimum monthly deposit of $25 and a Monthly Service Fee of $35, which can be avoided if you have $250,000 in linked Wells Fargo accounts.
In terms of fees, you pay nothing for:
- Wells Fargo Personal Wallet checks
- Wells Fargo and non-Wells Fargo ATM transactions
- Incoming and outgoing wire transfers
- Cashier’s checks
- Money orders
- Stop payments
- Foreign transaction fees
As an added benefit, the Premier Checking account does earn interest on balances.4
Savings account fees Way2Save Savings5
Wells Fargo also has two savings account options:
- Way2Save Savings
- Platinum Savings
The minimum opening deposit for a Way2Save Savings Account is $25, and it has a monthly service fee of $5. You can avoid the monthly service fee by meeting one of these requirements.
- Maintain a $300 minimum daily balance.
- Schedule one automatic transfer each fee period of $25 or more from a linked Wells Fargo checking account.
- Schedule one automatic transfer each business day within the fee period of $1 or more from a linked Wells Fargo checking account.
- Receive one or more Save As You Go transfers from a linked Wells Fargo checking account.
- Have a primary account owner that’s 24 years old or under.
There is no fee to link your Way2Save Savings account to a Wells Fargo checking account for overdraft protection.5
Savings account fees Platinum Savings6
A Platinum Savings account has a minimum opening deposit of $25 and a monthly service fee of $12. You can avoid the monthly service fee with a $3,500 minimum daily balance each fee period.
Platinum Savings is flexible when it comes to withdrawing money. You get unlimited branch and Wells Fargo ATM withdrawals and the option to write checks.6
Overdraft fees
If your account balance drops below zero, Wells Fargo charges you a fee.
You’ll have to pay a $35 fee per transaction to cover the transaction if you don’t have enough money in your account. There are a few exceptions and special rules that apply to Wells Fargo overdraft fees:
- You don’t have to pay an additional charge if the amount credited by Wells Fargo is $5 or less.
- You can only be charged a maximum of three fees a day or $105.
- You are not charged overdraft fees on items returned due to non-sufficient funds (NSF).
- Overdraft fees do not apply to Clear Access Banking accounts.
Teen Checking accounts have a $15 overdraft fee.5
Stop payment fees
If you sign a check – or several checks – and later realize you do not have enough money in your account, you can put a stop payment on it. A stop payment will prevent the overdraft fee.
But stop payments come with their own fees at Wells Fargo, at $31 per payment.
Premier Checking accounts have unlimited no-fee stop payments.5
Wire transfer fees
Wire transfer charges vary by account type and balance. You also have to pay a wire transfer fee if you’re transferring money from your Wells Fargo account to another bank account, even if they’re both in your name.
Here’s what a wire transfer costs at Wells Fargo:
Domestic wire transfer fee:
- Incoming wire transfer: $15.
- Outgoing wire transfer: $30.
Domestic wire transfer fee:
- Incoming wire transfer: $16.
- Outgoing wire transfer: $45.
You’ll also pay a $25 fee for repetitive outgoing domestic wire transfers. Repetitive outgoing international wire transfers cost $40 each.
If you have a Premier Checking account, outgoing wire transfer fees are waived. Third parties or other banks may charge their own fees as well.5
