Chase gives customers access to its network of ATMs and branches. It can also charge fees for its accounts. These charges include Chase overdraft fees, monthly services fees, checking account fees, wire transfer fees, and ATM fees for using a non-Chase machine.

Chase checking account fees
Chase Bank offers five types of checking accounts, not including student accounts.
Monthly fees range from $4.95 to $35. These fees can be waived if you meet certain conditions, like receiving a certain amount of electronic deposits each month, including payments from payroll providers or government benefit providers:
- Chase Secure CheckingSM
- Chase Total Checking®
- Chase Premier Plus CheckingSM
- Chase SapphireSM Banking
- Chase Private Client CheckingSM
Chase Secure CheckingSM
Chase Secure Checking has a fixed Monthly Service Fee of $4.95. You can waive this monthly fee when you have electronic deposits (either with ACH, the Real Time Network, FedNowSM network, or third party services using the Mastercard® or Visa® network) totaling $250 going into your account each month. There are no Chase fees for money orders or cashier’s checks and no fees at Chase ATMs.
However, the Chase Secure Checking account doesn’t give you access to overdraft services, check writing, wire transfers, or a safe deposit box.
Chase Total Checking®
You don’t have to pay an opening deposit on a Chase Total Checking account. It has a monthly service fee of $12, which can be waived by one of the following:
- Electronic deposits made into this account totaling $500 or more.
- Daily balance of $1,500 or more in just this account.
- An average beginning day balance of $5,000 or more in any combination of Chase Total Checking® account and linked qualifying deposits/investments accounts.
Overdraft services are available for Chase Total Checking® account holders through Chase Overdraft Assist. You’ll pay $0 to $50 for wire transfers and $5 per money order.
Chase Premier Plus CheckingSM
Chase Premier Plus Checking has a monthly fee of $25, which can be waived when one of the following is true:
You have a combined daily balance of $15,000 across this account and linked qualifying deposit/investment accounts.
You have a linked qualifying Chase first mortgage enrolled in automatic payments from your Chase account.
Current and former military members pay a $0 monthly maintenance fee with a valid military ID.
You don’t pay an additional ATM fee while using out-of-network ATMs for up to four transactions each statement period. Non-Chase ATM transaction fees are waived for active-duty and reserve servicemembers. Eligible military members also pay no fees for incoming or outgoing wire transfers.
This account earns interest at a rate of 0.01%.2 You won’t have to pay a fee for money orders and cashier’s checks.
There is no monthly fee on up to two additional Chase personal checking accounts (excluding Chase SapphireSM Checking and Chase Private Client CheckingSM) or a Chase personal savings account when linked to Chase Premier Plus CheckingSM.
Chase SapphireSM Checking
Chase SapphireSM Checking has a monthly service fee of $25, which can be waived if you have a combined daily minimum balance of $75,000 across this account and linked qualifying Chase deposit/investment accounts.
In addition, this account earns interest at a rate of 0.01%.2 With this account, you don’t have to pay a monthly fee for up to nine additional personal Chase checking accounts.
You don’t have to pay a Chase fee for services like:
- ATM use worldwide.
- Debit card foreign exchange rate adjustment.
- Non-ATM cash transactions.
- Card replacement, including rush requests.
- Stop payments.
- Deposited Item returned or Cashed Check returned.
- Incoming or outgoing wire transfers.
- Chase design checks when ordered through Chase.
- Counter checks, money orders, and cashier’s checks.
- Legal processing.
Additionally, there is no overdraft fee within the first four business days of an item being presented against your account. That allows time to make a deposit in order to avoid an overdraft fee.
Chase Private Client CheckingSM
Chase Private Client Checking is a premium account option that earns a 0.01% APY across all balance tiers.2 Relationship rates are available when you link a Chase Private Client Savings account.
This checking account has a $35 monthly service fee, which can be waived with either:
- a minimum daily balance of $150,000 combined across this and linked qualifying deposit/investment accounts.
- a linked Chase Platinum Business Checking account.
A Chase Private Client Checking account holder doesn’t have to pay fees for:
- Personal style checks when ordered through Chase.
- Wire transfers.
- Money orders, cashier’s checks, and counter checks.
- Stop payments.
- Debit card replacement rush requests.
- Deposited Item returned or cashed check returned.
- Debit card foreign exchange rate adjustment.
Similar to Chase Sapphire Checking, there is no insufficient funds fee charged within the first four business days of an item being presented against your account.
Chase savings account fees
Chase offers three savings accounts:
- Chase SavingsSM
- Chase Premier SavingsSM
- Chase Private Client SavingsSM
Chase SavingsSM
The monthly service fee for a Chase Savings account is $5. This fee is waived when you meet one of the following conditions:
- Have a savings account tied to a Premier Plus CheckingSM, Chase SapphireSM Banking, or Chase Private Client CheckingSM account.
- Have a minimum daily balance of $300 or more.
- Have an automatic repeating transfer of $25 or more into the savings account each month.
- Have a Chase College Checking account linked to this account for overdraft protection.
- Are under 18.
Chase Premier SavingsSM
The monthly maintenance fee for a Chase Premier SavingsSM account is $25, which can be waived if you have either:
- A balance at the beginning of each day of $15,000 or more in this account.
- A linked Chase Premier Plus CheckingSM or Chase SapphireSM Banking account.
If you have this account, Chase automatically waives the fee for:
- Non-Chase ATM transactions.
- Incoming wire transfers.
Chase Private Client SavingsSM
This account can only be opened if you have a Chase Private Client Checking account. You don’t have to pay a monthly fee for this account, and it comes with a variable interest rate. With this account, Chase waives charges for services like:
- ATM use worldwide.
- Non-Chase ATM transactions.
- Card replacement rush request.
- Incoming or outgoing wire transfers.
- Stop payments.
- Deposited Item returned or Cashed Check returned.
- Money orders and cashier’s checks.
- Legal processing.
Overdraft fees
Chase checking account fees for overdrafts are $34 for each item returned or submitted to an account with insufficient funds that overdraws the account by more than $50. Overdraft fees are waived for Chase Sapphire Checking and Chase Private Client Checking accounts if the transaction occurs during the first four business days of a statement period.
Items that overdraw the account by less than $5 won’t be charged the Chase overdraft fee.
Chase charges overdraft fees on the first three overdraft transactions per day, or a total of $102 in daily overdraft fees. Chase does not charge fees on further overdraft transactions after the daily cap has been reached.
ATM fees
Chase charges $3 per transaction for Chase Total Checking account holders to use an ATM that isn’t in the Chase network in the United States. With the Chase Premier Plus Checking account, you won’t pay a fee for the first four out of network ATM withdrawals per each statement period.
Using an international ATM that isn’t in the Chase network costs $5 per withdrawal on top of any fees that the ATM owner might charge. With Chase Secure Checking and Chase Total Checking accounts, a Foreign Exchange Rate Adjustment of 3% will be applied to ATM withdrawals made in a currency other than U.S. dollars.
ATM withdrawal limits range from $300 to $3,000, depending on whether you’re accessing a Chase or non-Chase ATM.
Other fees
Several other fees may be charged by Chase, depending on the account type. These are:
- Stop Payment – $30 per request
- Online or Automated Phone Stop Payment – $25 per request
- Counter Check – $3 per page
- Money Order – $5 per check
- Cashier’s Check – $10 per check
- Legal Processing – Up to $100 per order
- Transactions in a currency other than US dollars – 3% of withdrawal amount

Chase Bank Fees FAQs
Does Chase Sapphire have foreign transaction fees?
No, the Chase Sapphire account does not have foreign transaction fees. According to the information on the Chase website, there is no Foreign Exchange Rate Adjustment Fee when you make transactions in a foreign currency. However, if you opt to convert an international transaction to U.S. dollars through a third party (such as an ATM or merchant), those third parties may still include currency conversion fees in their exchange rates which are not reimbursed by Chase.3
What is the monthly service fee for Chase?
Your Chase monthly service fee depends on which Chase checking account you have and it can range from $4.95 to $35. There are several ways to waive the monthly service fee depending on your account terms.
How much is Chase's overdraft fee?
For applicable accounts, Chase charges an overdraft fee of $34 per transaction on the first three overdraft transactions per day, per account.
Chase also offers Overdraft Assist, which can help you avoid fees in certain scenarios, such as if your account is overdrawn by $50 or less at the end of the business day, or if you bring your account balance to overdrawn status by $50 or less the next business day after being overdrawn.
How can I avoid Chase Bank's monthly fees?
Chase provides several ways to avoid monthly service fees, depending on your account type. You may need to have monthly deposits totaling a specific amount or more, or maintain a certain average daily balance amount to avoid the monthly fee.
Can I dispute Chase fees?
Yes, you can. Whether you notice a duplicate charge, an unauthorized transaction, or believe a fee was issued in error, Chase offers a few channels to dispute the fee:
- Online: Log into your Chase account, select the transaction in question, and follow the “Dispute” link.4
- Phone: Call the number on the back of your credit or debit card, or the Chase customer service number.
- Branch: Speak to a banker at your local Chase branch.
Always keep documentation related to your dispute, like emails, screenshots, or mailed statements, to support your case. Chase will investigate your claim and inform you of the outcome. Successful disputes may result in the reversal of the fee.
