How Chime’s MyPay works

MyPay lets you get up to $500 of your pay before payday.^ There are no mandatory fees, no interest,* and no credit checks. Just open the Chime app, see how much of your pay you’re eligible to take as an advance ahead of payday, and select how much you’d want.

The money will be deposited into your Chime® Checking Account within 24 hours, and it’s totally free. If you need the money sooner, you can choose the instant advance option for only $2 per advance.*

To unlock MyPay you need to reside in one of the states that currently offers MyPay, have an active physical Chime card and qualifying direct deposits^ of $200+.

Not a Chime member? Sign up for a Chime Checking Account and set up direct deposit to start using MyPay.

More ways to get cash: SpotMe and Get Paid Early

Chime offers multiple ways to access money when you need it. One key difference between MyPay and these other features is that you can choose when you want to use MyPay. Each pay period, you can decide to take an advance if you want. If you decide to access some of your pay, you also decide how fast you want it.

So what other Chime features get you cash, and how do they work?

SpotMe

SpotMe® is Chime’s fee-free overdraft feature. Just set up a qualifying direct deposit and enroll in SpotMe, and Chime can cover you up to $200¹ on debit card purchases, Credit Builder purchases, and cash withdrawals, as applicable, based upon your available limit.

Think of SpotMe as a friend who has your back. If you have the feature turned on, SpotMe covers you up to $200 if you accidentally spend too much. If you don’t have SpotMe turned on, the transaction is simply declined. Note that you must continue to receive qualifying direct deposits to continue to have access to SpotMe¹.

Unlike MyPay, SpotMe is activated automatically if you overdraft.

Get Paid Early

As long as you get paid by direct deposit into your Chime Checking Account, you’ll get paid up to 2 days early. You don’t need to do anything else – Chime will make your paycheck available up to 2 days before your actual payday. That’s 2 days sooner than you’d get it at some traditional banks.²

With Get Paid Early, early paycheck access happens automatically. With MyPay, you can choose to get an advance ahead of payday, depending on your credit limit and how much is available to you.

How is MyPay different from SpotMe and Get Paid Early?

So if Chime offers three useful ways to get money when you need it, what makes each one different? Let’s break it down:

MyPay vs. SpotMe

Once you become eligible and are enrolled, SpotMe works automatically if you overdraft. If you spend more than you have in your account, Chime will automatically cover you up to your SpotMe limit¹ without any fees.³ Just pay us back the next time you get paid, automatically.

MyPay, on the other hand, is an optional product that puts you in control. Only use it when you want it, and choose how much money you get as an advance before payday, up to $500 per pay period. There’s no interest,* no credit check, and no mandatory fees.

MyPay vs. Get Paid Early

Like SpotMe, Get Paid Early happens automatically for all direct deposits. As long as you have direct deposit, Chime will often process your paycheck as soon as it’s available – which may be up to 2 days early.²

You’ll use MyPay if you want a portion of your pay even earlier. You don’t have to use MyPay every pay period (or ever!); the product is there for you to use when you need it.
