How is Chime Card different from Credit Builder?
Great question! Chime Card has the most benefits we’ve offered, all in one card. We’ve kept all the safe credit-building9 features you love, and now you can earn unlimited 1.5% cash back3 on rotating categories when you sign up for qualifying direct deposit.6
With Chime Card, you have access to cash at over 47,000 fee-free in-network ATMs,5 and you can take advantage of features like rent reporting12 to make the most of your credit journey.
With Chime Card, you have a Chime checking account, a Secured Deposit Account (SDA), and a secured line of credit, which is your Chime Card. Money added to your Chime account automatically transfers to your Chime Card Secured Deposit Account8. This account is what acts as your secured line of credit, so you can safely build your credit with on-time payments9.
When you switch from Credit Builder to Chime Card, your existing Chime Checking Account and Chime Secured Deposit Account (SDA) will work seamlessly8 together to help you build credit using your own money – no manual transfers needed! If you don’t currently have a Credit Builder account, you’ll get an SDA account when you sign up.
When you look at your Chime app, you’ll see a single account view of your “Available” balance.10 Your Available balance includes funds in your Secured Deposit Account that you can spend using your debit card or Chime Card. It does not include balances in Savings accounts. Whenever you spend using your debit card or Chime Card, the transaction amount is deducted from the Available balance.
For example, if you have $500 in your account, you can spend up to $500 on debit and Chime Card combined.
There are many ways to fund your account, including:
Once your account is funded, you can continue to build credit safely9 as you spend with your Chime Card. We’ll take care of the rest!
